The Thomas C. Hasbrook Award is given in honor of the accomplishments Mr. Thomas C. Hasbrook made throughout his distinguished life. Not only did Mr. Hasbrook have a passion for non-profit organizations, he had a strong connection with the blind community. During World War II, Mr. Hasbrook lost his vision during combat.

Mr. Hasbrook worked at Eli Lilly & Company, was a Deputy Mayor under Richard Lugar, and was an active philanthropist. He served on numerous Boards of Directors for non-profit organizations, including as a founding Board member with Bosma Enterprises. Mr. Hasbrook also served on the Star Fund of the Central Indiana Newspapers Foundation, the Marion County Health and Hospital Corporation, Crossroads Rehabilitation Center, Indiana Reading and Information Services, and the Indiana School for the Blind.

The 2012 Thomas C. Hasbrook winner will possess a strong community service orientation, something which Mr. Hasbrook demonstrated in both his personal and professional life. Nominees will also demonstrate evidence of contribution to the development of new or enhanced services, programs, accessibility, employment, training or other opportunities for people with disabilities through advocacy, program development and leadership or community service.

Year after year, this elegant luncheon has proven to be a great success. The Thomas C. Hasbrook Awards Luncheon is a direct reflection of Bosma Enterprises' vision - bringing about true equality for people who are blind or visually impaired.

This year, attendees will enjoy a special presentation from guest speaker, Master Sgt. Jeff Mittman, who suffered from a loss of vision during combat in Afghanistan. On the morning of July 7, 2005, MSG Mittman's team came under attack, and he was severely injured by on Improvised Explosive Device (IED). He was left without a nose, lips, most of his teeth, and the majority of his vision. He has endured more than 40 operations and has spent the last seven years recovering physically and emotionally. MSG Mittman is a requested speaker across the United States, giving lectures and sharing the lessons he has learned from his experiences.
